Congratulations! You've signed up as a LJ Future Skills Tutor! Next, reach out to Students and here's how you can make a good impression

Your first contact with potential students and clients is the most important contact with them. This is when the students make their first impressions about you as a tutor and truly decide whether or not they will select you as their tutor from then on out.

In doing so, we have put together some example scripts to help you explain the most key points to mention to the students on your first contact. Also, we have made suggestions on how you can phrase and describe those points to the students.

There is no one way of doing everything, but as long as you are comfortable, and confident in yourself and you be sure to be professional, then be rest assured, your first contact will be no problem.

1. How to make the first contact

First attempt

  • Step 1: Try to call. If they do not pick up, leave a voice message.

Dear *Student’s Name*,

My name is *Your Name*.

I am a tutor from the LJ Future Skills platform calling you because I was informed that you were interested in getting tutoring in the *subject you teach*.

I am a tutor on the platform that teaches *subject you teach* and *subject you teach* in particular, and I would like to have the opportunity to discuss your learning and upskilling goals.

Please feel free to call me back or text me on *your mobile*.

  • Step 2: Send a text message and send an email

Dear *Student’s Name*,

My name is *Your Name*.

I tried to call you recently, but you were unavailable to pick up the phone.

I am a tutor from the LJ Future Skills platform contacting you because I was informed that you were interested in getting tutoring in the *subject you teach*.

I am a tutor on the platform that teaches *subject you teach* and *subject you teach* in particular, and I would like to have the opportunity to discuss your learning and upskilling goals.

Please feel free to call me back or text / email me on *your mobile / email*.

Thank you

Best Regards,

*Your Name*

2. Introducing yourself to the student

Hi *Student’s Name*. I am *your name*. Pleased to meet you.

I am a tutor from the LJ Future Skills platform.

LJ Future Skills is a learning platform that connects tutors with students who want to upskill in any subject related to STEM or Technology.

I teach *subject you teach* and *subject you teach* in particular.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak with you today.

Let’s begin with your learning goals.

What skills, in particular, did you want to learn or activities did you want to be able to complete?

3. Talking about class cost and payment

For my *subject you teach* classes, I charge $*your Rate* per hour inclusive of GST.

(If applicable) My bulk prices are $*your rate* for 1 lesson, $*your rate* for 3 lessons, $*your rate* for 5 lessons, and $*your rate* for 10 lessons.

The payment for classes must go through the LJ Future Skills platform and organisation which can be paid one of two ways.

  1. Credit card: Payment through the website

  2. Bank transfer: Payment through Invoice:

  • Invoices require you to get the following details from the student to give to the company to generate: full name, contact number, email address and billing address.

It is important to note that the company policy is that payments must be paid for before the start of the class. This is for the security of both tutors and students.

In the case that any problems arise between you and any tutor, including myself, you or the tutor can lodge a lesson problem with the Company and they will handle the conflict resolution.

4. Explaining how the ‘First Lesson Money Back Guarantee’ works to students

The company understands that starting with a new tutor is a trial and error process, so for only your first 1-hour lesson with any new tutor on the platform, including myself, there is a money-back guarantee. This means that if you deem the first 1-hour class to be utterly unsatisfactory with your expectation, you can get your money back and find a new tutor on the platform.

5. Confirming classes with students the day before

Hi *Student’s Name*, I would like to confirm with you that you are still available to attend the class tomorrow. In that class, we will cover *topics you will cover in the class*. Please have the following things prepared for tomorrow.

*List of things for the student to prepare or bring*

  1. Reminding students to make payment for an invoice (payment via bank transfer)

Hi *Student’s Name*, I would like to just remind you that our class together is coming up soon. It was planned to occur on the *class date*. Please ensure, before the lesson date, to make payment for the class to the bank account details on the invoice that you received by email. If you have already done so, please then reply back to the email from which you received the invoice, to let the company know you have done so.
